Din Of Celestial Birds scale the heights to release their epic new single ‘From This Summit We Can See The Heavens & Stars’– the second taste of their forthcoming sophomore album Takeoffs & Landings. This song is accompanied by a music video directed by guitarist Chris Core, depicting the band performing in an abstract environment as the snow falls. Takeoffs & Landings will arrive August 7th on Vinyl, CD, Digital and Streaming, available on multiple coloured vinyl variants through
Big Scary Monsters (home to American Football, Lambrini Girls, Arcane Roots, Love Rarely, Dimscûa)  – celebrating their 25th anniversary as a label this year. The album will be simultaneously released by A Thousand Arms in the US and Tomato Records in China.

‘From This Summit We Can See The Heavens & Stars’ continues Din Of Celestial Birds’ exploration into travels and adventures, finding a sobering inspiration from late British mountain climber Alison Hargreaves. In 1995, Hargreaves became the first woman to scale Mount Everest solo. She followed this success with an attempt to climb K2, reaching the top. Sadly, Hargreaves and most of her team succumbed to a violent snowstorm on their descent. Her blood covered gear was later found, though it was considered too dangerous to approach the resting place of her body. As such, Hargreaves’ body was never formally identified.

‘From This Summit…’ finds Din Of Celestial Birds in a sombre mood, luring in listeners with a foreboding, gently palm-muted guitar melody, ever so gradually building in light intensity. Without warning, biting distorted riffs and weathering tremolo guitars come storming in like a force majeure. The quintet showcase their signature for embracing melancholy and exploring dynamic interplay, with a bold exploration of glossy synth leads. The song then concludes with an icy metallic showcase of riffs and dynamic polyrhythms into a tumbling gallop that escalates in tempo until the tension finally breaks into silence. Din Of Celestial Birds evoke the rush of feelings and awe Hargreaves must have felt seeing the beauty of nature from atop the mountain summit, soon followed by the impending panic, horror and doom of her ill-fated descent.

Watch the ‘From This Summit We Can See The Heavens & Stars’ music video now:

The accompanying music video sees the band performing as snow falls, bathed in kaleidoscopic light patterns that share a similar geometric look to the Takeoffs & Landings cover art – designed by Crash Of Rhinos guitarist Jim Cork at Explore Studio. The band members are often obscured into silhouette from the immense neon power of the lights, as they rock out amidst a strange, mythic environment. “I wanted to convey a sense of scale and unfamiliarity,” confirms Din Of Celestial Birds’ guitarist and video director Chris Core; “similar to the feeling you might get while climbing a mountain range, but abstract in nature.”

We want listeners to feel these adventures; to visualise huge mountains and vast oceans. Failing that, we want them to feel joy.
