A thirteen minute long all-encompassing track exploring crushing, droning post-black metal is a tough sell for journalists. Fortunately this was met with wide and overwhelmingly positive acclaim from those who took on the challenge. Much bigger than the sum of its parts, this EP was hailed by Zero Tolerance, Metal Hammer, Echoes & Dust, Astral Noize, At The Barrier and many more publications.
ACCOLADES
“A foot in bizarre experimental music far outside metal; the final product is overwhelming and moving.”
~ Zero Tolerance
“A near thirteen minute extreme metal symphony of contrasting and complex musical movements. A major leap forward for the band.”
~ At The Barrier
“A product of organic variety in style and emotion; chaptered, multidirectional, multifaceted and simply brilliant.”
~ Noizze – 9/10
FROM THE PRESS KIT
ICARIAN finds VOW pushing their sound forwards to create a multi-faceted thirteen minute opus that traverses through distinct phases and moods. The ferocious mid-section presents an elasticity in tempo and rhythm, pushing and pulling the listener through forceful, angular and dizzying performances – all enhanced by the weight and physicality of the oppressive wall of volume that fuels and empowers them. The quartet bookend their loud onslaught with melodic passages that find grace and serenity – sonically joining the dots between SUMAC, Steve Reich and Godspeed – shifting between vicious and unrelenting to euphoric and cathartic.
Released September 3rd 2021 on Cassette and Digital by Surviving Sounds.
