I rarely agree to do a PR campaign for singles as fewer publications tend to cover them these days. Underdark put out a strictly limited cassette single covering The Cure’s ‘Plainsong’, split between US label Red Nebula and UK label Surviving Sounds. This felt like a special occasion and an exciting challenge. It was such a pleasure to work with a band I’ve admired for years. This beaut sold out on pre-orders alone, mostly through word of mouth, podcast plays and social media plugging, allowing me the opportunity to change up my methodology.
ACCOLADES
“The band employ a layered melodic sound and seamlessly following the terrors that have shaken your ear canal into chaos.”
~ Ear Nutrition
“A truly haunting rendition of a track that was almost tailor made to be given the blackgaze treatment.”
~ Everything Is Noise
“They insist on moving black metal forward and doing new things with it, whether those new things are musical, lyrical or political.”
~ Heavy Blog Is Heavy
FROM THE PRESS KIT
Underdark have earned themselves a strong reputation for being one of the most exciting post-black metal forces and live acts in the UK heavy underground, adhering to a strict anti-fascist ethos. Their strong ethical stance has brought the quintet widespread attention from the likes of Vice and Kerrang! This new single release will serve as an introduction to Underdark’s new vocalist Abi Vasquez who joined the band last year. In the five years since their formation, Underdark’s uncompromising sound has taken them on a European tour and to Bloodstock Festival, as well as performing shows with the likes of Dawn Ray’d, Svalbard, Leeched, Hundred Year Old Man and many more.
Released October 30th 2020 on Cassette and Digital by Surviving Sounds and Red Nebula.
