Working PR campaigns for album releases isn’t all that I do. Some artists come to me with help on writing press kits or for advice and understanding on how to get their music noticed by gig promoters and record labels. When I heard an advance listen of Gospelheim’s debut album Ritual & Repetition, I knew they were onto something very special and unique. A blackened take on gothic metal, Gospelheim wanted to subvert expectations by making a black metal record that had no screaming vocals. My first job working with the Manchester based quartet was to write them a press kit and pitch their first music video to a website for an exclusive premiere. The wonderful publication Everything Is Noise were pleased to host their single Into Smithereens, which caused an exciting buzz across the UK’s heavy music scene. After building up some hype from the video and their extravagant live performances, I guided Gospelheim through the process of preparing, understanding and writing pitches to different labels – something that can be rather overwhelming for new bands. We heard back from some well respected labels and the responses were beaming with positivity, leading for them to land a home with German label Prophecy Productions. The rest is history.
