OUT TODAY – DAWNWALKER – THE UNKNOWING

DAWNWALKER re-invent themselves with a new cast of talented musicians for their sixth observation – THE UNKNOWING – a concept album meditating on grand themes concerning our shared search for belonging, and our desire to know our place in this vast, hostile and unknowable universe. Released today on Vinyl and Digital formats.

Conceived across three recording studios and featuring exciting new players, Dawnwalker’s sixth album The Unknowing finds a sharply tuned focus on songwriting, harmony and sonic finesse. Joining mastermind and guiding light Mark Norgate are seasoned talents including Luke Fabian (ex-Pupil Slicer) on bass, Chris J. Allan (ex-Malefice) on drums, flautist Bella Band, and vocalist Sofia Sourianou (Deathbloom, Lure In) bolstering Norgate’s lead voice with wonderful counter harmonies. Recorded largely by Stanley Gravett at Holy Mountain Studios (which has helmed records by Idles, Jane Weaver, Spiritualized, Green Lung and many more), additional sessions also took place with Joe Clayton (Pijn, Leeched) at Manchester’s No Studio (Mastiff, Mountain Caller, Ithaca) and with Scott McLean (Ashenspire, HealthyLiving) at Neon Fable Studios in Edinburgh – all captured with organic approaches, minimal edits, and a vintage analogue sound in the spirit of prog’s original heroes, favouring naturalistic performances without click-tracks. Through shaking up their methodology more than ever, these risks have rewarded Dawnwalker with one of their most consistent and cohesive offerings to date.

“Veteran post-metallers Dawnwalker are on a hot streak. The Unknowing is another fearless jog into the unknown, and the most accessible material the Londoners have released.”
~ Prog Magazine

“Dawnwalker continue to go strength to strength. These are some serious chops and they’ve been brought to bear to make this the lushest, most layered record in Dawnwalker’s history, and that’s saying something.”
~ Heavy Blog Is Heavy

“The Production really fits the sound that Dawnwalker are going for. This is another very impressive release from Dawnwalker that shows they are still evolving six albums in and shining.”
~ 4.5/5 – Metal Epidemic

“Though the ‘metal’ is dialed back from previous releases, the material remains heavy and effective. The Unknowing rewards multiple listens, with power in the details and strength in an illusion of simplicity.”
~ 3.5/5 – Angry Metal Guy

“Dawnwalker’s new album is a grand opus to say the least. An experience that grows and grows, slowly and effectively blossoming in the mind. A brave and inspired showcase of creativity.”
~ 9.5/10 – GBHBL

“The Unknowing feels like slipping into another world. As the record unfolds, it does indeed feel very much like a fantastical journey. the timing couldn’t be more perfect as we head toward Samhain when the veil between worlds is at its thinnest. “
~ The Angels’ Share

“Lyrically there are some fascinating subjects broached with colourful language and expressive motifs, and a powerful overriding theme of searching for belonging while surrounded by hostility in an uncaring world.”
~ Boolin Tunes

“Dawnwalker continue to travel down their own idiosyncratic pathways, with each record offering something different. The Unknowing represents another branch in the road, away from House of Sand‘s menacing dream-like wonders and into brighter worlds of diverse experiences.”
