FRIDAY // BIXLER STAGE // 11:35-12:05

How two players can make this much racket just has to be seen and heard to be believed. The bass guitar and drums duo Modern Technology sound deceptively larger, louder and noisier than one could expect. The duo of Chris Clarke (bass, vocals and synth) and Owen Gildersleeve (drums) encapsulate influences of ’90s Touch & Go era noise rock, the grubby grit of sludge metal, and the ferociousness of post-hardcore.

Making their ArcTanGent debut, Modern Technology will smack you in the face with excessive volume, screeching feedback, a visceral high energy attack and a brooding menace. Marching forwards as thoughtfully as they are sonically unhinged, the duo’s voiced concerns and socially conscious outlook tackles issues including mental health, the effects of austerity, societal degradation, and the ever increasing climate emergency. The duo will be playing songs from their latest album Conditions Of Worth, released last October to critical acclaim. Modern Technology are a staple of rising DIY label Human Worth (home to TORPOR, Kulk, Cower, Remote Viewing and more) – founded and operated by their drummer Owen Gildersleeve.

The duo recently supported Chat Pile and Meth on their latest UK leg, and toured with labelmates TORPOR. There will be no excuses for a lie-in on Friday morning as Modern Technology will deliver the ultimate wake up call over at the Bixler Stage.

FFO: Oxbow, Chat Pile, Big|Brave, Jesus Lizard, Part Chimp, Melvins, Divide & Dissolve.

“The heavy and intense brand of noise-rock that’s spat out by London’s Modern Technology is so dense and ferocious, it’s hard to believe the band consists of only two members.”
~ The Quietus

“Tenacious and fiercely independent. Part doom, part noise rock; it’s grimy but weirdly crisp and it sounds enormous. There’s a buzz in the air in the UK underground for this album.”
~ Ninehertz Podcast

“One of the UK’s most compelling bands; Nobody is making ‘noise’ like this in the UK today.”
