Southern UK based sludgy noise rock duo MODERN TECHNOLOGY return with a sound deceptively larger, louder and noisier than one could expect. The duo of Chris Clarke (bass, vocals and synth) and Owen Gildersleeve (drums) announce their second full length album CONDITIONS OF WORTH through the band’s own rising Brighton, UK based leftfield heavy label Human Worth.
Encapsulating influences of ’90s Touch & Go era noise rock, the grubby grit of sludge metal, and the ferociousness of post-hardcore – Modern Technology will hit you with the same energy and volume as their lauded live shows. Marching forwards as thoughtful as they are sonically unhinged, Conditions Of Worth takes the duo’s voiced concerns and socially conscious outlooks further and louder, tackling issues including mental health, the effects of austerity, societal degradation, and the ever increasing climate emergency. The album has been produced and recorded by Misha Hering at Holy Mountain Studios, capturing Modern Technology’s most ferocious, dense, textured and atmospheric offerings to date.
Conditions Of Worth will be released through Human Worth this October 13th on transparent “Utility Yellow” vinyl and digital formats. 10% of sales proceeds will go towards registered charity Choose Love – providing humanitarian aid, search, rescue and legal advice to refugees and displaced people across the globe. Modern Technology still serves as the label’s contextual backbone in their explorations of experimental noise rock, avant-metal and angular hardcore. Proving themselves to be a sought after act with their uncompromising live performances, the duo have performed live up and down the UK with contemporaries including Luminous Bodies, Teeth Of The Sea, Part Chimp, Thank, OHHMS, Bruxa Maria and more, as well as appearing at Raw Power Festival.
FFO: OXBOW, CHAT PILE, BIG|BRAVE, JESUS LIZARD, PART CHIMP, MELVINS, DIVIDE & DISSOLVE.
“The writing and recording of this album was a very cathartic experience for both of us. We were dealing with the emotions around the pandemic and both becoming new fathers, whilst we watched the world turn in on itself and global threats such as the climate catastrophe going largely unnoticed. We found salvation in writing and jamming when we were finally able to get back into the studio. The emotion, frustration and pent up energy we felt from that time has really been captured in this record.”
~ Owen Gildersleeve (drums)
“Conditions of Worth explores the proposed rules that govern values, beliefs and behaviors. This record largely deals with the conflict between these conditions, and an imposed societal value juxtaposed by a very real and emerging reality of climate catastrophe, and aims to reflect how we can be so blind to the very real threat of existence, by being so focused on ourselves. Thematically there are moments of awareness dotted throughout, as the protagonist is forced to reflect and sometimes seek guidance in a higher power.”
~ Chris Clarke (bass, vocals and synths)
Pre-orders will launch on September 1st through Human Worth.
