Din Of Celestial Birds present their second music video and new single ‘MMEC’, taken from their forthcoming debut album The Night Is For Dreamers, released on August 11th on Vinyl, CD and Digital through A Cheery Wave (UK) and A Thousand Arms (US). Hosted by Heavy Blog Is Heavy.
‘MMEC’ is a delicate and contemplative journey of instrumental post-rock which directly reflects the struggles of depression. From the song’s sombre and melancholic opening, the quintet gradually triumph over sadness as the song reaches a thundering climax. Brittle arpeggios soon unfurl into kinetic, fiery riffs bolstered by hammering tremolo guitars, bringing forth a surge of feelings through exhilarating urgency.
The music video itself reflects the dynamics of the song. Filmed in local Leeds woodland by guitarist and first time director Tom Hazlehurst, ‘MMEC’ is cleverly captured in one continuous take. Filmed during the summer with no crew or budget, the music video and its message excel from simplicity.
Din Of Celestial Birds wonderfully realise their message through subtlety and simplicity. ‘MMEC‘ is a powerful work of small scale film-making and shows how creatively DIY bands and filmmakers can push their art with only bare-bones budget and experience to work from. The band have truly captured something beautiful and stirring through such minimalism. “The character could be you, me or anyone,” says guitarist and director Tom Hazlehurst; “While the song is very personal to us, the message behind it is universal.”
